Life and it's sometimes trials

My brother, Don passed away a day or so ago. He had been ill, and in and out of the hospital recently. His wife of almost 44 years passed away last June, and he had been her care taker for a long time before that. I am sure he didn't take care of his health like he should have been doing, being a diabetic. So it is times like this that remind you to take care of your health above other things. I too am a diabetic,, and walk 5 days a week for my exercise and am being more aware of my diet. I want to live for a long time, and see all my grandkids grown up and on their own before that happens!!!! I try to have a positive attitude about life, and live it too the fullest!!!!!

Time to reflect

I was so tired last week, putting away things from the holiday that I didn't really enjoy my time. Now that I have got that over with and am back in my old routine, I feel much better and can see that before I know it, I will be able to get my hands into the soil and think about spring flowers. Last week-end was like spring, but of course I hope that we get more rain, otherwise planting new flowers might be a mistake. I think that we forget how much we depend on having a normal rain season. I would be very sad not to be able to plant and harvest a small garden, well not that a few tomato plants is a garden! :-) I had lots of the yellow pear type, and they just kept on giving!!
Still I depend on getting to work in the yard, rather like a good therapy and I can get lots of needed energy spent! My husband doesn't like yard work, but I do, it is a renewing of the earth and I need that. I miss my cat, Henry, and his companionship. He would sit and watch me and occasionally come by for me to pet him. I still look for him when I am in the garden. I guess I should get a replacement, but then my husband doesn't want another pet. I would have to get another husband if I did!! :-) Not really, but it would cause problems that I don't care to have.
So I will just have to do my garden work and listen to my favorite gal, Kate Wolf while doing
so. Well, just needed to write down my thoughts, probably not the greatest, but I feel better. Antique Rose

The Flea

I went to a flea market today, a local one that comes once a month. I was lucky this time, and found a really beautiful "cookie" plate. Hand painted and old, which I like very much. It was in really good condition too! A plus. :-) And the price was right, nice!! I also found a mirror that was surrounded by shells, which is another thing I dearly love. I don't know where I will hang it yet, but I definitely will find a place!!
I also got most of the Christmas decorations put away, finally!! That is a relief!! Well, that's it for today. Ta Ta, Antique Rose

Sales, ah the joys!!

Today I went to an Estate sale in my area. I look for rose plates, old linens, etc. But today, no luck, however I did come upon a really neat piece of furniture, and they said it was a standing shelf for storage of records. Not having old records, but CD's, I will use the shelves for them. The top will be a good place to put some of my tea cups. I think it will look rather nice. I will take a picture of it later and show it. I think I made a good purchase. Antique Rose

Putting the Christmas decorations away!!!

Well, I am half way there, took the one tree down, have the ornaments put away, and all the other things that were in the living room. What a job, as you have to dust again, and put out other things, which in my case are the Charming Tails that I have collected for a long time. You forget what wonderful things that you have, especially if you don't have them all in one place. So is like Christmas all over again discovering the things you had forgot!!
I'm going to an estate sale tomorrow, can't wait to see what treasures I will find!! Yes, I know I really don't need anything, but like I've said it is fun to hunt for treasures and I won't miss it!!

Thrift Store Mama

I love to shop at the local thrift shops. You never know when you will find a
wonderful need to have treasure. I love teapots, tea cups, and old linens. It is the thrill of the hunt that gets you!
