Week-end Happenings

Last week-end was quite busy. It was our week-end to go to the valley and do the yard work needed for the Mother in law. So we got up fairly early, and grabbed a breakfast sandwich at Mc D's and that needed cup of coffee and off we went! Ho Ho Ho Arrived around 9:15 AM. It was hubby doing the lawn and some trimming of a shrub, while he was busy doing this, we had a cup of coffee and talked for a while. About 10:00 AM, my sister in law and I went to a local town and looked in a "Antique "shop. It was fun looking, which we did for an hour or so, and even though I saw some things I liked, I didn''t buy this time. Well, I do just look sometimes!! :-) Perhaps the next time, I will find that something that I just have to have. Meantime, we went back to Sister's and visited a bit before it was time to go to lunch. Once more we went to our favorite place, "Osaka's". Oh, yum, the sesame chicken is the best I have ever had!!!! I order that everytime, even though there are other items I like too. The salad and California rolls are excellent. They give such portions that I always have a doggie bag to bring home with me. :-) For that snack or lunch nextday. This time I took it to my granddaughters, as daughter had invited us to stop back by Tracy and have dinner with them. Thought it was going to be at her house, instead we went to the "Texas Road House". It is a fun place to go, you eat peanuts and throw the hulls on the floor, while waiting for your name to be called for dinner. It took a couple of times going there before I was comfortable about throwing things on the floor!!! My Mother taught me not to do those types of things!!! Oh, well, it was fun and we had a nice visit while eating. Daughter had made a delicious cake, "Butter Pecan with Cream Cheese Icing" for dessert, and even if I didn't need it, I had a slice. MMMMMMM, it was good!! She is an excellent cook, and baker. I was suprised that my blood sugar was not higher than it was. Can't do that all the time, but I will try to restrain myself next time. :-) Sorta rested the next day and worked in the yard, pulling a few of those weeds missed last time. The Dahlias are coming along quite well. Flags and Peonies are blooming as well as Roses in the back. Nice!! It has been cold again this week on the morning walks, and staying that way into the afternoon before warming a bit. I am ready for some warmer weather!!!! My printer went compoot this week, so have to order a new one. Ugh!! hate to have to rewire new things, not too good at that stuff, but I will do it. I really miss not having the option of printing things out!! :-( Went to see my sister this morning, she was not feeling great, but she said she is improving. No word on how the tests came out, but I did not question her on that, as I figure when she wants to let me know she will. She liked the Daffodils I brought, and the angel cup. Her Roses are just beautiful, so full and heavy , the English type I love. Mine were suppose to be that kind, but they are not as full, so I don't think they are!! Well, this afternoon, I went to the senior center, there was a Volunteer Appreciation celebration for the volunteers. It was nice, munchies and desserts. Awards for long time volunteers. Next year I will get a 5 year one. Those years sure went by quickly!!! Ta Ta for now. Antique Rose

Friday's doings.

After the walk at the lake and I was through volunteering at the senior center, I came home and had a bite to eat and was off for my haircut. Didn't realize it had been six weeks since my last cut. I should go every five weeks, or perhaps sooner. My hair grows like weeds!!! :-) Fast!!
Well, time goes by so quickly!! No wonder my hair was really bugging me, I really needed that cut badly!! Well, it feels much better now. :-)
With I got back, my hubby(the sweetie pie) asked if there was anywhere I would like to go. Of course I chose to go to my new favorite, "Not Too Shabby" in San Jose. Found a table cloth, a plate, and also a cute little cup with an sweet angel on it with flowers of course.
I will fill it with fresh flowers and give to my sister next week when I visit her. Haven't heard anything about the results of her tests, hope it was good news!! I guess she will let me know when she is ready for me to know.
Tomorrow it is off to the valley and then on the way back a stop at my daughters house for dinner. She called earlier and asked if we would like to do that. Of course I said yes, I get to visit again! :-) Will be nice to see her cabinet she arranged, and I also have a picture to pick up of the youngest daughter. I saw the proof, really came out good. All the granddaughters are very pretty of course!!!
Well, missed a call from the grandson in Florida when I was gone!! Have missed the last couple of times he's called. I emailed him, but haven't heard back. Hope all is fine.
Ta Ta for now. Antique Rose

Crazy weather.

I was complaining about it being too hot, well, it cooled by 30 degrees today!! How's that for a complete turn around!? I took advantage of it, and got more weeds pulled and watered good in case the predicted rain doesn't arrive. They(plants) can always use more , as I try to not water too heavy and have it run off. My peonies continue to bloom and the roses in the backyard are really pretty. Stay tuned for the Dahlias that will be here soon.
My hair is really bugging me, so will take care of that after I walk tomorrow. The gal that cuts it is there on Fridays and week-end. Since we go to valley on the weekend, I want to get it done earlier.
Fixed a yummy salad and had some bacon, tomato, and avocado sandwiches for dinner. Just perfect since I was busy in the yard before that. Well, that is it for this time, just blogged and nothing of importance has happened since. :-) Ta Ta Antique Rose

The Weather, it is hot!!!

This week has been unusually hot for this time of the year!! You might say, hot as hell, except I have no idea how hot hell really is!!! Ha Anyway, I can take gradual climbing of the temps, but freezing one week and in the 100's the next is hard on me!! I want it to be cool, then a bit warmer, then perhaps have a day or two of hot heat, that way it isn't too hard to take. I know, picky, picky, you say, at least I woke up and was still alive, but I am at the age where, I can be a bit more picky! Well, lets see, I spoke to my sister today, she is in good spirits, which makes me happy, as she is my baby sis, and I hate to see her go through surgery and then chemo!! She is going to be fine though, as she has the right attitude and frame of mind. You can't keep a gal down with that going for you!!! I did go over, and knocked on the door, but when no one answered, I assumed she had taken a nap, but as I found out later, she had taken a potty break and didn't hear my knock. Will go again next week, and knock louder!! She will have her stitches out this Friday, and find out results of lab tests. Keep your fingers crossed. All thoughts positive! There you go, we will stand united and win!
As for all the other days this week, walked as usual, and then did my thing at the senior center. Had a few ladies gone this week, so had a few things extra to do, which didn't bother me at all. Can't just stand around when things need to be done. Makes time go quickly too. :-) Speaking of which, next Friday will begin yet another month!! When you speak of that time going quickly I am not as happy! Time seems to go faster with each and ever year that comes! I think that even the kids feel this. Perhaps we are living much faster than we should, we know instantly when something happens on the other side of the world, much less than here in our fair city of Fremont! I could do with not knowing every little thing bad that happens, couldn't you? I think that papers, radio, television, and computer news should have to have an equal amount of good news to counter all the bad news stories. What do you think. Am I the only one that wishes this? I certainly hope not. Do you realize how often bad news gets repeated, and how few times good news is?? Makes you wonder, doesn't it?? Perhaps I am showing my age, by saying these things, sometimes I stop and think, my Dad used to say these same things. Well, I guess he wasn't too far off base after all!!!!!!! I bet you're laughing up there hearing me say those same things, aren't you Dad!!! Ah, to hear them once more. Guess you never really appreciate things, until they're not there any longer!!! Well, guess that is all for this time, hope I didn't sound too philosophical. Oh, forgot to say I have roses, peonies, and orchids blooming. That part is nice, heat brought them on faster than they would have come, so that in it's self is good. Ta Ta Antique Rose

Thursday through Sunday's events.

Last Thursday my daughter and granddaughters went with me to the new store called, "Not Too Shabby", their first time, my 5Th . They liked it, granddaughters found old pictures(they collect) and I found a nice corner floor shelf for my daughter. It was a surprise for her. I liked it, but really have no room for it, but I will enjoy looking at it at her house!! She already has it nicely filled with old hankies, and tea cups. Looks very nice! But I get ahead of myself! After visiting the store, we found a nice place to eat our picnic lunch. It was the municipal Rose Gardens in a near by area. First time that I had been there, it was just beautiful, with dozens of different types of roses in bloom. Got lots of really nice pictures after our lunch. The granddaughters had fun taking pictures with their cameras. We then went to another store, then went back to my house. The girls were tired, so stayed with "Pa" while daughter and I went on to Niles and checked out a few more stores. It was a fun day for all, and later we all went to eat at Sweet Tomatoes, our fave place to eat! Yummy salads and soups. Did I say the weather was really good too, nice warm day after all the cold ones, was greatly appreciated!!
That was Thursday, then on Friday my husband and I went back to Willow Glen to an estate
sale place, and looked, found a creamer and one cup and saucer. Then it was to a Mexican place for lunch. Very tasty! I think I could live on Mexican food, it is sooooooo good!! What a nice ending to a nice week. Then Saturday I went to visit my sister who had just had a very major surgery, unfortunately they had found some cancer, and she will have to have chemo!! She's my baby sister, and I feel so bad for her. I will do what I can for her during her recovery. She's almost like my child, as there is twelve years between us. I used to carry her around and people thought she was mine!! That of course did not make my Mother happy at all!!!!! And now that our Mother is gone, I think she thinks of me as her "other" Mom. Anyway, on to Sunday. I met my daughter and granddaughters at a place in Pleasanton called the "The Blue Door", they were having an annual garden/store sale. I found a couple of , rose dishes, well what else!! And daughter found some embroidered linens. Just one of the granddaughters found something, two books that she liked(old ones), one a novel, and the other a book of poems. She writes poetry, so that was a fun find. :-) Then it was off to have lunch and perhaps find yet other treasures. A visit to a fabric store, and then home. A very nice day of just doing our thing, without the men around!! Not that they're not handy, but sometimes you need to do without them around, there is no questions, like "how much time to you need here?" or "why are you buying that, do you really need it?" Well, you understand if you are married. That's a wrap! Until next time, Antique Rose

Easter Day Happenings

Another Easter gone, but with many happy memories stored away for future years when I am old and not able to get around. :-) Started off slowly and leisurely, just the way you would want. Slept in a bit and stayed in Jammie's for longer that I am able to do during the normal week-day. Had that second cup of coffee and looked and read the paper front to end. Nice!! Made lists so that I didn't forget camera, food, etc. Calls made and then time to go to valley to be with daughter and family. Picked up granddaughter here, son would come a bit later. My daughter always has yummy munchies to eat, and we have time to chatter above the noise of four granddaughters being silly and singing their little hearts out!! So much noise and talk and business that I didn't hear phone ringing and getting to hear the little great grandson's Happy Easter Greetings!!!! A nice picture on the phone too. Still have not got used to these new gadgets that they have these days. Have to have instructions from the granddaughters on how to do my own phone!! But glad they know these things, as you can't get a phone these days that only has the gear to take calls and send calls, they have things on them that most computers have! Just a minor hold up, seem to get the necessary things done with them! :-) Back to the day, enjoyed the munchies,,got the rest of the dinner items done as the day went by. Daughter fixed a yummy turkey breast, I a ham, then there was the two veggies, broccoli and asparagus, rolls, rice, and salad, everything was quite yummy!!! Daughter made a really delicious carrot cake with a yummy cream cheese frosting with a white chocolate bunny surrounded by coconut grass and Easter eggs. Looked good, tasted even better. Oh, yum yum!!! Was quite content at the end of the day. Good byes are always sweet, and then the drive home. I think everyone went somewhere and were on their way home with us, traffic was really thick and slow, but we made it home nicely and safe. So it was a perfect end to a perfect day. Isn't that nice to be able to say with all the bad things happening in this world. I'd say so. Antique Rose

Got to plant some new flowers. Whoopie!

Monday after leaving the lake/senior center I went by the garden area of Lowe's. They had some pretty good selections of spring flowers. I got a couple of pink Carnations, two French Lavenders, and three six packs of annuals. Stock and Asters. Got two others, just can't think of their names, as they are something new. :-) Pretty and pink though. I like the colors pink and lavender. They go with a pink house. :-) I got them planted same afternoon, and now they are enjoying the rain we're getting right now. How great is that?! I will do some more planting in the coming weeks. My Dahlias are coming up nicely, and the Peonies are really loaded with blooms, just hope the rain doesn't make them fall off, only one has bloomed so far. A very pretty deep pink. I have some volunteer tomato plants coming up again this year. I guess I will have some yellow pear again this year. How nice. I wanted to plant an Ace type of tomato, but haven't yet. I really should soon, but haven't really got a good place for one, the Dahlias are taking up that space. Guess I really like flowers to look at more than picking tomatoes when they are really cheap in the stores. They take a great deal of water too, and that is a minus. Oh, well, I will enjoy whatever comes up that I plant, and be glad that it did. I still have some cleaning up to do with weeds in the back, but I will get there. No, big rush I suppose since I want to have as much rain as possible. It will be double duty with weeds when a rain has been here. So I will just save myself some work , by waiting the rain out. That's it for the garden report. Gosh, this rain makes me want to take a nap! Yawn! Ta Ta Antique Rose

Saturdays Valley Visit

I had a great day visiting the valley. We left early for our semi weekly trek. Hubby takes care of his Mom's lawn, and other tasks as needed. In the meantime, my sister in law and I go shopping at a local town, and while she goes to one store I go to another, and then we meet and come back home . I love the store called "Home Goods", it has lots of great things, at reasonable prices, and I say you can't ask for more than that! I usually find something or other to buy. This time a really neat watering can filled with Spring flowers. Gave that to my daughter, she likes watering cans, although it is usually vintage that she likes to collect. Sometimes I find jam, or quilts, or something that catches my eye. After going back home(Mom's), we then went out for our lunch at a local Japanese restaurant. Yum!! I didn't eat the rice, just some salad and my fave, sesame Chicken!! Then back and another hour of visiting and then on to my daughter's. I got to be with her and granddaughters for a good long visit, along with helping out some with preparation of a great dinner, did I mention she is a great cook?! Well she is, and the dessert later was to die for. Blueberry coffee cake. Oh, yum, yum, yum!!!!!!!! It was soooooo good. I will just live with the higher blood sugar test in the morning. :-) Saw the pictures that the two had got back , well one was there, the other to be ordered but saw the proofs. So beautiful, they were!! I can't wait to get one of each! My daughter had got me three magazines that I love to read and drool over. They are paper candy, love the vintage stuff in them, and the ideas that they give me. So nice of her to think of me when she got some for herself!!! Son in law is getting to be quite the barbecuer. Lovely fish, chicken and brats were on the menu. Mmm good. It was a lovely day and when I got home got a letter saying that my lab tests came back good, the blood sugar had improved a great deal, so I will try harder to get them down some more. Yipee!! Good news for a change. Too bad she didn't call in person and let me know right away, like she did when they were bad!!!!! :-( Well, the hubby has hit the sack already, and I should, so will say Ta Ta for this time. Treasure hunting on Thursday and Friday

I was surprised with an offer to take me to San Jose on Thursday when I got home from my lake walk and volunteering at the center. Well, of course I said yes!! Off to my favorite new store!!!!! Where else?! It is getting to be a weekly thing it seems! Anyway, I looked for an hour or so, while dear hubby rode his bike around. This time, I found a really neat picture/illustration from a book. It is a mother cat, nursing her kittens, done in ink and crayon, I believe. I think I have seen the book, an old one from the 40's, I will research it. Then got a really neat creamer and sugar bowl with roses of course, and one matching salt shaker. Not much really, but neat. I looked at a shelf, and liked it a lot. Hubby said if it was still there next time I could buy it. Whoopee!!!!!!! Today when I got home, it was off to Livermore and Pleasanton, and lunch out. I didn't buy anything but a jacket found at a local thrift. Nice one with zippers on pockets and sleeve, so I can carry my phone and keys without fear of losing them! That's a really nice feature. Also it is a well known brand, and well made for 6.99 minus my senior discount. Hey, there has to be some benefits of senioritis!!!! :-) It is off to the valley tomorrow, which may bring more surprises! Depends on whether I go anywhere but the mother-in-laws. So until later.
